Kai Saukkonen, MD is an attending pulmonologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He earned his BS in Biology from Yale University and his MD from Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Saukkonen completed his internal medicine residency at the New England Deaconess Hospital and his pulmonary and critical care fellowship in the combined Harvard Program including New England Deaconess, Beth Israel, Brigham and Women’s, and West Roxbury VA medical centers. He was awarded the prize for excellence in physician-patient relationship in both medical school and residency. After several years in a rural private practice of primary care, pulmonary, and critical care medicine and another few years of pulmonary and critical care medicine at an urban academic medical center, he was asked to join the Pulmonary and Critical Care staff at MGH in 2007. Since coming to MGH, Dr. Saukkonen has established himself as one of its busiest and most sought-after general pulmonary clinicians and actively participates in supervising and teaching trainees, colleagues, and attendees at Harvard Medical School courses.
